The body of former TV journalist Kimani Mbugua arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from Mombasa on Tuesday evening, ahead of his burial later this month.

The emotional homecoming was made possible through the intervention of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who personally facilitated and funded the entire transportation process, ensuring that the late journalist’s remains reached his family in dignity.

Sonko confirmed the development through a statement on his official X (Twitter) account, writing:

“Finally in the evening we went to JKIA to receive the body of the late former journalist Kimani Mbugua who died in Mombasa last week. We took the body to Montezuma Monalisa in Kabati along Thika Road. He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, in Maragwa, Murang’a County.”

Sonko’s latest act of generosity has drawn widespread praise, as it’s not the first time he has stepped in to assist Kimani Mbugua and his family.

At the time, Sonko stated publicly, “I am committed to ensuring that Kimani receives the necessary care and support for his full recovery.” His consistent compassion and willingness to assist those in crisis earned him praise across social media.
