The body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has left Parliament Buildings for Nyayo National Stadium, marking the next chapter in the state funeral.
The procession began shortly after 9:20 am, with military pallbearers carrying the flag-draped casket out of Parliament’s main entrance.
A ceremonial guard of honour stood at attention as the hearse, flanked by uniformed officers and family members, made its way through Nairobi’s streets.
Crowds lined the route, many waving flags, twigs and holding portraits of the late leader.
Some wept openly, others sang songs that echoed Raila’s decades-long struggle for democracy and reform.
President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and other dignitaries had earlier paid their respects at Parliament, joined by Raila’s family and bodyguard Maurice Ogeta.
At Nyayo Stadium, thousands of mourners arrived in the early morning, including Kenyans, regional leaders and foreign dignitaries.
The event will feature tributes, prayers, and performances honouring Raila’s legacy.
The body will later be transported to his Karen home, awaiting to be flown to Kisumu on Saturday.
Raila Odinga will be laid to rest on Sunday at Bondo, Siaya County, fulfilling his wish to be buried within 72 hours of his passing.
