Renewed Energy for Kenyan Football

The Harambee Stars’ improved performance at CHAN 2024 has reignited hope in Kenyan football circles, marking a step forward after years of administrative struggles, funding gaps, and limited international exposure.

He said that the renewed focus on sports, coupled with Ruto’s personal engagement, had reminded players of the importance of representing the flag with pride.

Sports observers agree that direct involvement from the top leadership can make a major difference — not only in morale but also in accountability and organisation.

Ruto’s Broader Sports Vision

Since taking office, President Ruto has pledged to revitalise sports across the country, recognising its power to unite the nation and empower youth. His administration has prioritised improving stadiums, supporting local leagues, and creating pathways for Kenyan athletes to compete internationally.

During CHAN 2024, Ruto was reportedly in regular contact with the team, often checking in on their progress and offering words of encouragement. Shikhalo said that such gestures went a long way in motivating the players.

A Grateful Team Spirit

For Shikhalo, Ruto’s support symbolised more than just financial aid it reflected leadership that understands the struggles and dreams of athletes.

He said the President’s actions had inspired the team to push harder, both on and off the pitch.

“That guy stood with us and showed us the Kenyan spirit,” Shikhalo reiterated.
