Kenyan musician Shalkido, formerly a member of the popular group Sailors Gang, was involved in a hit-and-run accidentalong Thika Road in the early hours of Sunday, October 5.

The accident occurred betweenGithurai and Carwash, just beforeRoysambu, leaving the artist hospitalised and the entertainment industry in shock.

First Responders Recount the Scene

First responders who arrived shortly after the crash described finding Shalkido lying by the roadside. They administered first aid before transporting him to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) for emergency treatment.

In a telephone conversation shared by Obinna on social media, they detailed that the accident happened at approximately 4:42 a.m., between Githurai and Carwash, on the main highway heading toward Thika.

''There were no witnesses because it was boda boda riders who found him lying on the road. They stopped and called for rescue, who then dispatched us at about 4:42 am,” the responders said. 

Obinna’s Emotional Reaction

Shortly after the accident ,Obinna and Shalkido’s father confirmed that the artist had been admitted to the hospital.

At first, getting a clear medical report proved challenging, but later the treating physician shared details about his condition.

Oga Obinna, visibly shaken, took to social media to share the frightening details and plead for prayers. He expressed how surreal it felt that they had been together just moments before the tragedy.

In his video update, Obinna thanked the first responders for their quick action and urged motorists to be more vigilant on the road, particularly during the late-night hours when visibility is low.

“He has internal bleeding in the brain … it is in a lot of places, and so it is also swollen, meaning that it is inoperable, and they cannot do anything about it,” Obinna explained in a heartfelt update. “The main concern is the brain … the neurosurgeon saw him, and there is nothing they can do for now. They said it is very severe.”

Accident Timeline and Details

According to comedian Oga Obinna, who had been with Shalkido shortly before the incident, the two had travelled together from Thika after a club appearance.

They made a stop at Ruiru Junction around 4:07 a.m., where they fuelled Shalkido’s motorbike before parting ways a few minutes later at Kahawa.

Obinna revealed that at the time, Shalkido was fully geared in boda boda riding equipment, including a helmet, emphasising that the musician was cautious and prepared for the ride. Sadly, less than 40 minutes later, tragedy struck along Thika Road.
