
Police are investigating an incident where a 35-year-old man died after he was assaulted in an altercation with another man in a village in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County.
The assailant escaped the Kopiyo village after learning that Stephen Ochieng Genga had succumbed to the injuries. This followed an altercation between the assailant and the deceased.
Police said the deceased went to a local hospital for medical attention and was offered painkillers and told to seek further treatment in Homa Bay Town.
The family told the police they did not have funds for the treatment and took him home, where his health deteriorated hours later, police said.
They did not report the initial assault.
He was rushed to a hospital on Saturday, September 20, 2025 and succumbed while on the way, police said.
The body was moved to a local mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.
The hunt for the assailant is ongoing, police said on Sunday, adding they had yet to establish the motive of the attack.
Elsewhere in Muthara, Tigania, Meru County, a man was stabbed and killed in Kaongo village in an altercation, police said.
Police said the body of Kathurima Munyi, 23, was found lying on a farm with a deep stab wound in the left thigh.
This followed a fight between the deceased and an assailant who escaped the scene.
A team of detectives is investigating the murder. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
Police said they are investigating claims the man was assaulted at a local shopping centre before he walked to the farm where his body was found emotionless.
In the Gatunga area, Tharaka Nithi County, a man died after being hit by a falling tree.
Police said the deceased, identified as Daniel Nyaga Kamakia, was cutting an Acacia tree when it crushed him. He died on the spot.
The body was picked up and moved to a local mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.
