Kenya Prince: Car-less People don't Understand Police Harassment

Kenyan forex trader and digital entrepreneur Kenya Prince has addressed the public following a widely shared video that captured a heated confrontation between him and a traffic police officer.

The incident, which unfolded during what appeared to be a routine traffic check, quickly escalated into a verbal exchange and has since dominated social media platforms.

Breaking his silence, Prince released a statement acknowledging the trending video.

"I've seen the video that is trending online where I was in a confrontation with a police officer yesterday evening, and so many people are talking negatively about it," he stated.

Addressing those criticizing his conduct during the heated encounter, Kenyan Prince said;

“Others are saying that I’m arrogant with pride, telling me about respect. You failed to respect yourself; that is why you failed terribly in life.”

Prince then shared his perspective on the encounter, highlighting concerns about police conduct.

He remarked, "Most of you guys don't know how police officers can take advantage of you. You don't know how these traffic police officers want to squander rather than take money away from you".

He attributed this lack of understanding to those who do not own cars.

“You don’t know some of these things because you don’t even have cars, so you won't understand.”

He concluded by sending a clear message regarding his standing.

"It's time these people realize who to harass. My connection is well built in this country," Prince asserted.

The Viral Clash

The video, which circulated across X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and various gossip blogs, showed Prince in a tense standoff with the officer.

At one point, he raised his voice, declaring, "Mimi sio rika yako". This Swahili phrase, common in Kenyan street lingo, is often used to assert authority or demand respect.

For many viewers, this statement came across as arrogant towards a law enforcement official.

However, others defended Prince, suggesting he might have been reacting to provocation. The phrase quickly became a trending hashtag, inspiring memes, parody videos, and TikTok skits across Kenya.

The public response was sharply divided. Critics accused Prince of disrespecting the police, arguing that public figures should demonstrate humility.

Conversely, supporters pointed to common frustrations among Kenyan motorists regarding alleged harassment from officers, seeing Prince's bold reaction as a relatable stand.
