Kenya is set to make its mark on the global shooting stage as a team of 29 athletes heads to South Africa for the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Handgun World Shoot Championship.
The championship begins on September 11 and runs until September 28 at the Frontier Shooting Range in Matlosana.
It is regarded as the highest level of IPSC competition, testing skill, speed, precision, and endurance.
Frank Ambundo, Regional Director of IPSC Kenya, said more than 1,800 elite shooters from over 50 countries will take part.
He described the event as the ultimate meeting point of the world’s best practical shooters.
“This is not just a competition, it’s where the world’s finest meet to push the limits of discipline, accuracy, and performance. Let us all rally behind Team Kenya as they hoist our flag high and prove that Kenya is ready to compete at the very highest level,” Ambundo said.
He added that IPSC Kenya has invested heavily in identifying, training, and preparing shooters and match officials to compete at world-class level, noting that the goal is not only to participate but to challenge for top honors.
The IPSC Handgun World Shoot, first held in 1975 in Zurich, is staged every three years.
The contest features at least 30 different courses designed to test shooters under diverse and demanding scenarios, from lightning-fast target transitions to high-pressure precision shooting.
Kenya’s participation marks a milestone in the country’s shooting sports development, reflecting steady growth in training and international engagement.
“This is a chance for the world to see Kenya’s emerging stars in action,” Ambundo said. “Our team is ready, motivated, and determined to make the country proud.”
With the countdown underway, Team Kenya now eyes glory in Matlosana as they take on the world’s finest.
