Celebrity TV host Amina Abdi Rabar has officially announced her departure from NTV after a distinguished run at the station.

Amina, who took over hosting duties of the popular Friday night show The Trend from Larry Madowo, bid farewell to viewers in what marked the end of yet another era for the programme.

Madowo, now a CNN correspondent, had himself exited the show years earlier, citing frustrations over the growing number of competing talk shows copying its unique format.

On Friday, September 5, Amina’s last episode featured a memorable showcase of talented police officers from the National Police Service who doubled up as bodybuilders.

The six officers impressed Kenyans with their muscular physiques and synchronised poses, embodying strength, discipline and dedication.

Their performance not only entertained viewers but also sparked both admiration and light-hearted reactions online.

Reflecting on her time at NTV, Amina expressed heartfelt gratitude to fans and panellists who supported her along the way.

“Thank you so much for all the love, thank you to everyone who welcomed me. I appreciate and thank you so much,” she said in her farewell message.

News of her exit was met with mixed emotions online. Some Kenyans admitted they rarely watch traditional TV these days, while others celebrated her seven years of consistency and impact on the show.

“Everything that has a beginning must have an end. You served well, Amina,” one user wrote. Another added: “Eight years of consistency and an impactful journey — we wish her well!”

Amina had officially taken over The Trend in November 2017, cementing herself as a household name.

Before joining NTV, she had already built a strong career across radio and television, having hosted Alfajiri on K24, and establishing herself on Homeboyz Radio before moving to Capital FM, where she became one of the station’s most recognisable voices.

Her broadcasting journey began at the Homeboyz Radio School, which honed her skills and set her on the path to success.

With her exit, Amina closes a significant chapter, joining the list of prominent personalities who have graced The Trend stage over the years.
