A TikTok video by creator Yvonnemagaya has gone viral after she defended social media star Keranta. The move comes after a clip of Keranta chewing Jaba (known as Khat) at a party caused an uproar online.
The viral video of Keranta, sparked a heated debate, with many calling her actions irresponsible. However, Keranta seemed unfazed, posting her own clip with the caption:
"kila mtu na starehe zake msinikule kichwa."
This translates to, "Everyone has their own way of having fun; don't bother me."

The "Baddie" Debate
Yvonnemagaya's strong defence struck a nerve with viewers. In her video, she expressed disbelief that in 2025 people are still shocked to see women, especially "baddies," chewing khat. Baddie is a term used to describe beautiful young women who enjoy the party scene and a glamorous lifestyle.
"I’m hearing you guys are giving out to Keranta because she’s eating jaba. You’re saying that baddies shouldn’t eat jaba? Go to Mombasa and see wealthy ladies eating jaba. Wealthy! Money! Anyway…” she said, making it clear that khat use is not just for men.

Instagram Reactions
Her comments quickly blew up on social media, with fans and public figures jumping in.
ttam_ace brought Keranta’s ex, comedian Flaqo, into the conversation, tweeting: "@flaqo411 hapa nayo uliponea. Waaaa!??" (You really dodged a bullet there!). Flaqo’s one-character response—a single full stop—sent fans into fits of laughter.
Music producer Magix Enga and creator afrikan_sowshee also weighed in, admitting their surprise but taking a "live and let live" approach.
Another fan, duhh.itzmeg, suggested that critics probably just don’t understand the enjoyment of chewing khat.
The online storm highlights a wider conversation in Kenya about personal choices, social judgment, and the cultural norms surrounding khat.
Yvonnemagaya’s message is clear: perhaps it’s time for society to accept that "women" are part of jaba culture, and the shock factor is long overdue for retirement.
