DCI linked them to a string of violent attacks and burglaries in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa.

Detectives drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau have arrested eight people suspected to be members of a violent robbery syndicate that has been terrorising Kenyans across the country.

The arrest in Mtito Andei, Makueni county, followed a well-coordinated operation supported by officers from the DCI Headquarters Operations Team.

"For months, the gang had been on detectives’ radar, linked to a string of violent attacks and burglaries in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa. Their operations left behind a trail of loss and fear, with businesses suffering significant financial damage," Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Mohamed Amin said in a statement Tuesday.

He said one of the gang's most daring raids occurred on the night of August 22, 2025, when a group of armed attackers numbering between 25 to 30 stormed Century Mabati Ltd in Nakuru county.

"Wielding crude weapons, they looted steel coils, machinery, and even made away with a tuk-tuk before vanishing," Amin said.

According to the top detective, further investigations revealed a disturbing pattern of brazen robberies in several major urban areas.

Intelligence reports connected the group to similar high-profile break-ins, including a major robbery in Nyali, Mombasa.

"Their operations and coordination reportedly have roots in Nairobi’s Dandora, Kenol, and Kariobangi estates. A major breakthrough came when detectives intercepted a lorry loaded with goods stolen from the Nyali heist," Amin said.

He said the seizure disrupted the gang’s supply chain and provided vital evidence that led to the arrest of the eight suspects.

The DCI boss revealed that during the operation, police recovered a Toyota Porte, which is suspected to have served as a getaway vehicle.

Crude weapons and a Century Mabati-branded apron were also seized as exhibits.

"The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Authorities expect multiple charges to be filed, marking a significant step toward dismantling the organized crime ring," Amin said.
