Prominent city lawyer Steve Ogolla has finally spoken out following months of speculation about the end of his marriage to Cebbie Koks, sister to singer Akothee.

The breakup, which had been the subject of gossip and online chatter, recently resurfaced after a viral photo showed Ogolla at a Law Society of Kenya (LSK) event alongside a stunning woman.

Netizens immediately linked the sighting to his past union with Cebbie, which ended only months after their lavish traditional wedding (nyombo).

Addressing the matter for the first time, Ogolla chose calmness and dignity over sensationalism. In a brief online statement, he acknowledged the public’s renewed interest in his private life but firmly dismissed rumours:

“I have seen renewed interest, rumours and gossip around my marriage. Jewel and I got married in a colourful ceremony full of love and promise. As a rational thinker, I am not permitted, by the rules of decency and common courtesy, to comment substantively on the fate of that marriage.”

Ogolla clarified that he has never authorised anyone to speak on his behalf or provided “tea” to fuel social media speculation.

His words signalled that the marriage ended respectfully, without scandal, and with mutual understanding.

He also emphasised that he continues to hold Cebbie in high regard despite their separation, choosing to honour the bond they once shared rather than fan gossip.

Who is Ivy Bavolyne?

Attention later shifted to the woman spotted with Ogolla during a trip to Diani — identified as Ivy Bavolyne, who holds a degree in Pure Mathematics.

Cebbie's Side of the Story

Cebbie, for her part, has also been addressing the chatter around her personal life.

In February 2024, she appeared on Dialogues with Jagero, where she was pressed on why she had deleted Ogolla’s photos from her social media pages.

Rather than give a direct answer, she criticised the focus on her private life: “Why are we looking at things that don’t really matter? Does it even matter to you that I changed my name or deleted photos? People need to let public figures live their lives.”

On Lynn Ngugi’s show, she reflected on her short-lived marriage: “In 2022, I got married, and that is what makes me a married woman. It was a wedding I really cherished, and even in another life, I’d still want to have a wedding like that.”

However, she admitted it was still too early to call Ogolla her “friend,” saying only couples married for 3–5 years could speak with certainty.

Cebbie also opened up about the toll of social media bullying, recalling how online attacks in 2017 deeply scarred her.

Confirmation of the Split

By October 2024, Cebbie finally confirmed what many had long speculated: her union with Ogolla was over. In a trending Facebook post tied to a viral challenge, she declared she had healed:

“I am healed… You can give me another Luo man to eat my lungs kaff kaf! And to finish completely!”

Her post officially ended months of guessing games, confirming that the glamorous 2022 marriage had crumbled.

A Lavish Wedding, a Quiet End

The couple’s wedding in 2022 had been one of the most talked-about social events of the year. Political figures like Lang’ata MP Jalang’o and Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei attended, while Ogolla showered his bride with gifts, including a sleek white Toyota Land Cruiser and a generous bride price.

But within months, online sleuths noticed Cebbie had wiped her social media clean of her husband’s photos. Fueling speculation, she later posted cryptically: “You remember I said I was taken, well, they have returned me.”

Despite the gossip, neither she nor Ogolla ever disclosed details about what led to their split — until their recent, careful confirmations that the marriage had quietly ended.
