The Teachers Service Commission Headquarters

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 24,000 internship opportunities for qualified candidates to serve in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS). 

These positions aim to support the ongoing implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

In a notice issued on Tuesday, the Commission invited interested and eligible applicants to submit their applications online through the TSC website at www.tsc.go.ke under the “Careers” section, or via teachersonline.tsc.go.ke. 

The deadline for submission is midnight on September 9, 2025.

The internship will last for a year, with a monthly stipend of Sh20,000, paid subject to statutory deductions, where applicable.

To qualify for recruitment, a candidate must be a Kenyan citizen, hold at least a Diploma in Education, with a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE and C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects, or equivalent, and be a registered teacher with the TSC.

The application portal will open on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, and will close at midnight on Monday, September 9, 2025. 

TSC warned that manual applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Applicants with equivalent qualifications are advised to consult the Commission’s website for further guidance.

The recruitment process will be governed by the TSC’s Guidelines for the Recruitment of Teacher Interns for the 2025/2026 Financial Year. 

Only unemployed individuals who have no prior record of disciplinary termination from the Commission will be eligible to apply. 

During the application and verification process, candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates, as well as evidence of registration with the TSC.

Applicants must also possess a valid Personal Accident Insurance Cover to safeguard against risks during the internship period. 

TSC stated that the selection process will be strictly merit-based and guided by the number of available vacancies in each county. 

Successful candidates will be posted to serve in any Junior Secondary School within the sub-county where they were interviewed or in any part of the county where a vacancy exists. 

They will be expected to teach various learning areas in line with the Junior School Curriculum.

During the verification stage, applicants will be required to provide a copy of the TSC registration certificate or a printout from the TSC online portal as proof of teacher registration, a copy of the national ID or a valid passport. 

They are also advised to provide a copy of the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card, where applicable, two recent passport-size colour photographs, and a copy of their Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Personal Identification Number (PIN) certificate.

Candidates are reminded that they must not accept more than one offer of internship if selected.

TSC warned that the recruitment  process is free.
