
Police in Mtwapa have arrested four men in an intelligence-led operation targeting muggers and pickpockets in Maweni and Kipapuro areas of Kilifi South subcounty.
The suspects, aged between 18 and 40, were apprehended on the evening of Friday, August 8, and are set to be arraigned.
Police say the crackdown is part of ongoing high-visibility patrols and targeted actions to safeguard residents and tourists in the busy coastal township.
Mtwapa, a popular hub for both locals and international visitors, has recently witnessed increased police presence as part of a wider strategy to curb street crime and protect public spaces.
Authorities have been focusing on areas identified as crime hotspots, with operations relying heavily on intelligence gathered from both undercover work and community tips.
As part of heightened anti-crime crackdowns across the country, the National Police Service is also targeting drug trafficking networks and other organised criminal activities.
In Nyeri, officers from Kigogoini police post, working alongside the area chief and Nyumba Kumi team, uprooted stems of suspected Cannabis sativa following a tip-off from members of the public.
The plants, seized as exhibits, were allegedly being cultivated on a farm in violation of the law.
Two suspects linked to the Nyeri operation, believed to be brothers, are currently on the run.
Police have intensified efforts to track them down and are appealing to anyone with information on their whereabouts to come forward.
Elsewhere in Samburu, a swift response by a multi-agency security team on August 7 led to the recovery of six cows stolen from Attan Location, Ngaremara Ward.
Officers acting on credible intelligence traced the stolen livestock to the Lorkerded area in Laresoro sub-Location, Waso East location, and transported them to the Archers Post police station for collection by their rightful owners.
