Renowned Kenyan actor and media personality Martin Githinji, popularly known as Daddie Marto, has issued a heartfelt and candid statement addressing his separation from long-time partner Koku Lwanga.
Speaking out after months of public speculation and online commentary, Marto clarified the timeline of their breakup, his continued responsibilities as a father, and responded to allegations that have affected both his personal and professional life.
Separation Timeline and Background
According to Marto, the couple separated in December 2024, with initial hopes of reconciliation.
However, by March 2025, they had mutually concluded that the relationship was over. He moved out of their shared home in April 2025, although he remained close to ensure the children’s routine wasn’t disrupted.
By May 2025, both parties had drafted a joint statement about their separation, intending to release it when the time felt appropriate.
"This is documented. We were no longer together, in both words and actions. This is a fact, not wishful thinking," Marto asserted, stressing that claims of ambiguity around the separation are unfounded.
Financial Commitments and Support
Addressing rumors of abandonment, Marto firmly rejected suggestions that he walked away from his family responsibilities.
He detailed his continued financial support, covering household expenses, school fees, medical insurance, and utilities — all supported by receipts, bank statements, and mobile money records.
He also recounted how he paused his work in July 2024 to help Koku complete her mother’s house in Kerugoya — a project he claims he emotionally, intellectually, and physically committed to until November.
“When the available funds ran out, I took a loan to finish it, hoping to recover once back to work. I unfortunately still carry that financial debt to date,” he disclosed.
On Koku's Contribution and Rent Dynamics
In March 2025, Marto says Koku volunteered to support by covering the nanny's salary and contributing toward loan repayment.
However, he requested that her contribution be redirected to household expenses instead — a decision made for the sake of their children's well-being. After he moved out, this support shifted towards rent, as he was now maintaining two homes.
Responding to claims of coercion, he said, “There have been suggestions that there was coercion into paying rent. That is not accurate, and the full record is available.”
The Incident Under Investigation
One of the most contentious aspects Marto addressed was an incident involving a heated altercation at his residence.
He describes being confronted at his door while accompanied by a friend. As tensions rose, he says he recorded the interaction — something he claims he had been advised to do in therapy for such moments.
The situation allegedly turned physical, resulting in an injury to his eye. He maintains that there had been no prior incidents of violence in their relationship and insists that what happened that night is now under police investigation.
“Since that night, I have been portrayed in ways that suggest I am violent, abusive, manipulative, and irresponsible. Nothing could be further from the truth,” he wrote.
Moving Forward with Dignity and Legal Action
Daddie Marto also revealed that he has initiated legal proceedings through his lawyers to address the defamation and online attacks, opting to seek a quiet, respectful resolution through the courts.
“I take full responsibility for my part, but I will not carry what is not mine. That is not healing, that is self-erasure,” he added.
Despite the turbulence, he reaffirmed his commitment to co-parenting with dignity and to shielding his children from the noise surrounding their separation.
