However, by 2019, whispers of their separation began circulating as many observed that they were no longer living together.

The formal step came in 2022 when Janet officially filed for divorce, though she has consistently remained tight-lipped about the specific reasons behind the decision.

In a recent candid interview with podcaster Adelle Onyango, the former TV anchor opened up about the profound social changes she experienced post-divorce.

“There’s a difference between life before and after divorce – like two different societies,” Janet reflected.

“That’s when you begin to see friendships for what they truly are. There are some Christmas parties you’re no longer invited to. No one says it outright, but when you’re not a ‘plus one’ anymore, there’s this quiet shift.”

She added that a friend who had also navigated a divorce confirmed similar experiences, particularly within residential estates, noting a "weird, almost subconscious profiling, even just walking into a gathering.”

It was on 30 May 2022 that Mpasho.co.ke exclusively reported Janet had filed for divorce from Eddie Ndichu, with the case still active in court. The former couple share two children.

A Sister's Pride and Resilience

At the time, during the launch of Janet’s podcast, her younger sister Sharon Mbugua, a mental health advocate with the Mental Health Association of Kenya, spoke fondly of her sibling’s strength and resilience.

Sharon, who typically maintains a low profile, described Janet as a "go-getter" who has profoundly inspired her family.

“I’m proud of Janet. Her resilience challenges me. Ever since the divorce, she hasn’t looked back,” Sharon said, adding, “I support her from the background and spend time with her children.”

Sharon also reflected on the beginning of Janet and Eddie’s relationship, recalling her surprise upon learning of their engagement.

“I remember seeing him for the first time at her farewell party at KTN before she went to South Africa. Later, I learnt they had reconnected and started dating,” she shared.

Despite initial caution from Janet due to Eddie’s reputation, Sharon noted his persuasive efforts to win her over.

“He was persuasive and went out of his way to prove himself. I remember when they came home after getting engaged outside Nairobi – it was a surprise.”

The family ultimately rallied around the couple, assisting with wedding preparations, even if the engagement itself was unexpected.
