While some Kenyans publicly express their dislike for avocados, a number of prominent figures openly showcase their affection for this green superfood.

International Avocado Day: A Global Movement
International Avocado Day is observed annually on July 31st. This date was largely established through promotional efforts by bodies such as the California Avocado Commission.
The aim is to highlight the avocado's rich nutritional profile, which includes healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals, thereby encouraging its wider consumption and appreciation globally.
The significance of the day lies in raising awareness about the health benefits and versatile uses of avocados, from being a staple in various cuisines to being a popular ingredient in healthy eating trends.
Celebrities Embracing the Fruit
In Kenya, several well-known personalities have used their platforms to express their fondness for avocados, often sharing their preferred ways of enjoying them.

Here are some of the famous Kenyan personalities who, over time, have publicly expressed their love for the famous fruit;
Larry Madowo
Veteran journalist Larry Madowo has frequently shared his enthusiasm for avocados. On December 19, 2021, Madowo tweeted, "Salt your avocados, beloved. Don't live like animals".

Further illustrating his stance, Madowo also posted on July 1, 2020, declaring, "I don't trust people who hate avocados". On September 1, 2024, he shared a photo with an avocado, noting, "She knows I love avocado, so she bought me one when I wasn't looking.”

Michael Olunga
Football star Michael Olunga has also showcased his love for avocados.
On October 31, 2022, Olunga posted a picture of himself enjoying a meal that included avocados, questioning, "Is there a better fruit?". He followed up with a direct question to his followers: "Avocado is the best fruit. True or false?".

Bahati
Famous Kenyan musician, Kevin Bahati, is also an avid lover of the widely admired fruit. This is evident from a short video that captured activities in his house during meal time.
The video posted on TikTok on June 19, 2024, showed the singer serving himself food in his house while talking to his wife Diana Marua, who wanted to know if he was enjoying the meal.
“Yes, I’m enjoying it,but where is the avocado? In this house, we had already said avocado should be part of our meals,” he replied.

Azziad Nasenya
Azziad Nasenya, a prominent Kenyan media personality and content creator, captivated many with her fondness for avocados.
For Azziad, avocados are more than just a healthy snack; they are often highlighted as part of her beauty regimen and dietary preferences.
This was revealed in August 2023 during a Live TikTok session when she revealed in a detailed video that gifting her an avocado is one of the easiest ways one can get into her heart.
A combination of ankle socks and happy socks would undoubtedly make its way into her heart.

"Let me tell you the bare minimums of the things that make me happy: socks. If you gift me socks, that is a love language. I will love you like Christ loved the church," she said.
"Second, avocado! Niletee avocado. And not just any avocado, niletee avocado ya mafuta. If you know, you know," she added.
