A recent sermon by Nigerian Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the Founder of Loveworld Incorporated, globally recognised as Christ Embassy, has shed light on his distinct teaching regarding the use of tithes.

Divine Instruction Over Personal Charity
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's message is unequivocal: tithes are exclusively for the 'house of God'. He strongly asserts that this divine instruction leaves no room for personal discretion, even when faced with compelling needs.
“You see, God has his ways of doing things. For example, he told you to take your tithes to the house of God. He didn't tell you to give your tithe to your grandmother,” he firmly stated.

“You can't use your tithe to do good, no matter how good the work is. You can't give your tithe to a suffering person because the person is suffering. So, you're going to give him money; you give him your tithes. You can't give him your tithes,” the pastor added.
Tithes Belong to God
The core of Pastor Chris's teaching on this matter revolves around ownership. He emphasises that the tithe fundamentally "belongs to God". This isn't a suggestion or an option, but a divine claim.
Similarly, he highlights that the 'first fruit' also falls under this same principle; it is not something a person can decide whether or not to give to God, as it inherently belongs to Him.
"The tithe belongs to God. The first fruit is also the same. The first fruit is not something you decide whether or not you're going to give to God. The first fruit belongs to God. He lays claim on the first fruit."

According to the sermon excerpt, adherence to this specific method of tithing and offering first fruits is presented as an "assurance of prosperity".
