Is a Ya Moto Band Comeback Possible? Mbosso & Aslay Reunite

Tanzanian music stars Mbosso and Aslay Isihaka, once members of the beloved Ya Moto Band, have reunited for the first time in nearly eight years.

Their long-awaited reunion comes months after Mbosso’s departure from Diamond Platnumz’s Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) label, signalling a new chapter in his solo career.

The emotional link-up between the two former bandmates was shared by Mbosso on his Instagram feed, where he reflected on the significance of the moment. “Imagine, the last time we met was in 2017, and since then, we’ve only communicated without seeing each other,” Mbosso wrote. “After about eight years, we finally met again yesterday, though unfortunately, each of us was busy chasing our own hustle.”

He concluded with a heartfelt appreciation: “Was nice to see you my legendary brother @aslayisihaka.”

Ya Moto Band, once a powerhouse in East Africa’s Bongo Flava scene, disbanded in 2017 as its members pursued solo careers. Since then, both Mbosso and Aslay have enjoyed individual success, though fans have long hoped for a collaboration or public reunion between the two.

While the recent meeting appears to have been brief and spontaneous, it has reignited excitement among longtime followers of the group, with many taking to social media to express hopes of a musical collaboration in the near future. For now, the meeting stands as a reminder of the enduring bonds formed in the early days of their careers and the possibility that the story of Ya Moto Band might not be fully written just yet.
