A quarrel over the whereabouts of medicine for an ailing woman turned deadly when a man killed his father in a village in Kakamega County.

The tragedy happened after a 26-year-old man hacked and killed his father following a confrontation over the assailant’s ailing mother in Emanyasa village.

The deceased was identified as Calisto Osundwa, 66, police said of the bizarre incident.

According to police, Osundwa and the assailant, who was his son, had argued on why his wife, who is the mother of the suspect, had not taken her prescribed medicine.

The mother has been unwell for some time.

Witnesses said Osundwa told the son he had misplaced the patient’s medicine, which angered him in the July 20 incident.

The assailant picked up a panga and wooden stick, which he used to hack the father in the head, killing him, police said.

He escaped the scene. This happened as the deceased man screamed for help, with the ailing mother also unable to respond.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

Police said the hunt for the suspect is ongoing.

Elsewhere in Sidindi, Ugunja, Siaya county, a woman was found dead in an unoccupied house after a suspected murder.

The body of the woman aged about 55, was found with a swollen face, deep cuts in the head and the neck tied with a piece of cloth.

Police said there was a pool of blood at the scene. The motive of the murder is yet to be known.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy, identification and investigations.

In Ganze, Kilifi county, a man identified as Gabriel Kombe, 58, was found murdered, and the body lying in a pool of blood.

The deceased had attended a funeral in the area on July 19 and was returning home when he was confronted and fatally attacked by unknown assailants.

The body had deep cuts on the head. The motive of the attack is yet to be known, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary.

Police say murder cases have been on the rise amid efforts to solve them. Some of the incidents are lying in courts, police say.
