Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has shared a poignant and deeply emotional message on Instagram following the recent passing of her beloved father, David Mwangi.
Her heartfelt post, shared a month after his demise, reflects the profound pain of losing a parent and the complex journey of grief.
In her touching tribute, Matubia poured out her feelings, writing: "It’s been a month of confusion, numbness and crying… Mondays have not been the same since you left to be with the one you loved the most… They say grief is love turned into pain—your body left but your love never left… I tried my very best! I miss you, the girls miss you… The other day Zendaya wanted her Grandpa and I was numb because I also want you, Daddy! I pray and hope it gets easier day by day."
Matubia also reflected on her father's enduring legacy of resilience. "I know you wouldn’t want me to give up… So I will keep going—even if I have to crawl out of bed, I will do it because that’s what you taught me: never to give up… Continue resting in peace, Daddy. I love you," she concluded, highlighting the powerful lessons he instilled in her.
A Valiant Battle with Cancer
The heartbreaking news of her father's passing was first shared by Jackie on 9 June. The late Matubia patriarch had been courageously battling stage 4 cancer for some time and was undergoing treatment with the hope of recovery.
Jackie had first publicly revealed her father’s diagnosis in June 2024, bravely opening up about her family’s emotional journey.
Despite the immense suffering he endured, she often described him as incredibly strong, resilient, and unwavering in his faith.
He had undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy with remarkable courage, inspiring those around him.

During a past family gathering, Jackie’s father delivered a moving testimony about his experience, emphasising that cancer was not necessarily a death sentence.
He expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering support of his wife and children, and spoke passionately about the crucial importance of faith in his healing journey.
"Thank you. It is true—cancer isn’t a death sentence. It depends on how you interact with your God. I know my God, and my family knows our God. I’m healed. There was a time I weighed just 47 kilograms—less than a bag of cement—yet here I am, my hair intact. If you’re going through something similar, just know there is a God in heaven, a healer. Haijalishi unapitia nini—it doesn’t matter what you’re going through—there’s always God," he shared at the time, offering hope to others facing similar struggles.
Outpouring of Support and Condolences
Following the announcement of his passing, an outpouring of condolences flooded in from fans and fellow celebrities, all extending their support to Jackie and her family.
Among them was renowned actress Kate Actress, who offered comforting words: "May you find comfort in knowing that you did your best, babe, and Dad is proud of you. Rest in peace, Baba Jacky."
