Nigerian Afrofusion star Burna Boy appears to be shifting gears on a major life decision: becoming a father. The Grammy-winning artist, who celebrated his 34th birthday on 2nd July 2025, used the occasion to hint that he may finally be ready to start a family.

During a celebratory toast at his birthday bash, Burna Boy reflected on his life and the passage of time, jokingly acknowledging that age might be catching up with him. “I’ve been thinking about life lately. I’m getting older… maybe it’s time to start having kids,” he said, referencing a previous conversation with close associate Jowizaza that had sparked his reflections.

This comes as a notable change from the singer’s earlier position. Just a year ago, in a candid Instagram Live session in May 2024, Burna Boy had openly shared that he was not yet prepared for fatherhood. At the time, he stated his decision was driven by the demanding nature of his career and a strong desire to be fully present for his future children.

“I know I can’t give a child the same kind of love and attention I received from my parents with the kind of life I’m living now,” he explained. “When I’m ready to be there every single minute of every day, that’s when I’ll have children.”

He also addressed speculative comments about his fertility during that live session, brushing them off with humour. “Even if that were true, there’s IVF, right?” he quipped, indicating he had no concerns on that front.
