Former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has expressed his condolences and tribute towards the family of Diogo Jota and his brother André

The former Liverpool couch posted their picture together and he wrote, “This is a moment where I struggle! There must be a bigger purpose! But I can’t see it! I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother André. Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father! We will miss you so much! All my prayers, thoughts and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them! Rest in peace - Love J.”

Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother Andre have tragically died in a car crash in northwestern Spain on July 3. He was standout forward for Liverpool and a key player in Portugal’s national squad who even recently won the UEFA Nations League.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced that a minute of silence will be held before all matches this weekend, calling Jota's death “a devastating loss.” Liverpool FC, his club, posted a black-and-white photo with the caption: “Forever in our hearts, Diogo.”  Within hours of the news breaking, flowers were laid outside Anfield in tribute to Jota.

Diogo's death is especially heartbreaking as he had just tied the knot 10 days ago, leaving behind a newlywed wife Rute Cardoso with whom he had three children with.

According to Spanish emergency services, the fatal accident occurred near Zamora in the Castilla y León region around 2:30 AM. The A-52 highway crash saw the car veer off-road, overturn, and catch fire. Emergency crews arrived swiftly, but both brothers were declared dead at the scene.

As the inquiries into the accident proceed, supporters, fellow players, and organizations globally are coping with the abrupt departure of an emerging talent whose enthusiasm and determination made a significant impression both on and off the field.
