Posta Rangers' head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo was over the moon after his charges survived a scare from Naivas in the second leg of the Kenyan Premier League playoff to maintain their top-flight status.

The mailmen, riding on a 2-0 advantage from a Felix Oluoch double in the first leg, lost 1-0 in the return fixture at St Sebastian Park in Murang'a on Wednesday.

Mark Vivan's first-minute goal sent a ripple of excitement through the stands, igniting hopes of a miraculous turnaround for a team that had fought for promotion in the National Super League, only to fall short, finishing third behind Nairobi United and APS Bomet.

"They all deserve a big pat on the back for a job well done. Despite the defeat, we managed to meet our objective, which was to maintain our status in top-flight football," Omollo said. "It has been a tough season for us. We hope to perform better in the coming season and finish in a respectable position."

"Fighting relegation is the worst feeling ever," he said.

Omollo said they intend to invest some resources in the transfer market to bolster the squad.

"There are some areas that we will need to address before the start of the season," he pointed out.

Rangers finished 16th in the Premier League.

Naiva's head coach, Elvis Ayany, said: "We shall give it a better shot next season. We hope to earn a direct promotion to the top-flight by finishing among the top two."

"We displayed a good game today, but we were not fortunate enough to convert all the chances we created. The boys played well. We should have registered a bigger scoreline," he said.
