The family of Mary Diana, the vibrant real estate entrepreneur and popular TikTok content creator, has officially confirmed the dates for her memorial and burial following her untimely death, which has sent shockwaves through both the online and business communities in Kenya.
In a heartfelt statement shared by her family, they revealed that Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep on 28 June 2025 at her residence after a short illness.
The news, which broke days later, left many of her friends, clients, and social media followers in deep shock, especially as she had been actively engaging with them just hours before her passing.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Diana (Mdee), founder and CEO of Modern Homes,” the statement read.
“Mary made a lasting impact in the real estate industry and in the lives of those she served and inspired. We appreciate your continued prayers, support, and respect for the family’s privacy during this time.”
A close family source confirmed to Tuko.co.ke that a memorial mass will be held on 9 July at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi.

Mary’s body will then be transported to her home county of Kakamega on 10 July, with the burial scheduled to take place on 12 July.
However, the source added that these dates remain tentative pending the results of a post-mortem to confirm if there were any underlying health conditions.
Mary’s sudden death prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues, and fellow entrepreneurs. Many described her as warm, driven, and a true role model.
“She was very enthusiastic with her work, may heaven receive her soul,” one mourner wrote. Another recalled a recent interaction with her, saying, “She told me she wasn’t feeling well, but I didn’t expect this. I’m still in shock.”
Born and raised in Kakamega as the third of five siblings, Mary’s journey into real estate was unexpected.
After completing a degree in Mathematics and Applied Statistics at the Technical University of Kenya in 2017, she found herself interning at a real estate company in 2018.
That experience sparked a new passion that would shape the rest of her life.
Her tenacity, professionalism, and people-first approach propelled her from intern to sales manager in just a few short years.

In 2023, she launched MD Modern Homes, a full-service real estate agency catering to both local and diaspora clients.
Her company quickly became known for its ethical standards, transparency, and innovative approach to marketing properties—particularly through social media.
Mary was recognised for her contributions with awards such as the Real Estate of the Year (Individual Category) from the Kenya Professional Delta Association, and the Young Entrepreneur Achievement Award at the 2023 National Business Leadership Awards.
