Simon Kabu, the renowned CEO of Bonfire Adventures, has secured a significant legal victory in a defamation case against his ex-wife, Sarah Mtalii.
The High Court issued a stringent gag order, effectively prohibiting Sarah Mtalii from creating or circulating any further defamatory content targeting Mr. Kabu.
The court's decision was comprehensive, encompassing a temporary injunction that specifically prevents Sarah from sharing a contentious internal company memo from December 2024. The injunction's reach extends to her associates, agents, and any third-party representatives, barring them from using social media to speak out against Simon Kabu.
Furthermore, Sarah was explicitly ordered to remove all previously published defamatory statements and to issue a formal apology on the platforms where the damaging content had originally appeared. The judiciary found that Mr. Kabu had presented a compelling case, demonstrating the clear risk of irreparable harm to his reputation and business interests. Speaking on the outcome, Kabu's lawyer emphasised that the ruling served to uphold fundamental constitutional rights, specifically the right to dignity and protection from defamation.
A Public Journey of the Kabus This recent legal development is the latest turn in what has been a widely publicised and often turbulent narrative surrounding Simon and Sarah Kabu. Their story began in 2007, a modern romance initiated through virtual interactions that soon led to a real-life connection and the joint establishment of Bonfire Adventures, a venture that would elevate them both to public prominence.
For many years, their personal milestones seemed to align with a picture of domestic bliss. Simon's romantic proposal at Amboseli Observation Hill in 2008 preceded their marriage at the picturesque Lake Naivasha Country Club in 2009.
The family expanded with the arrival of their son in 2013, followed by their daughter, Anita, in 2017, seemingly cementing their image as a successful couple balancing both business and family life. However, beneath the surface, signs of strain began to emerge.
June 2021 marked the first public indication of marital troubles when Sarah posted cryptic messages on social media, expressing concerns about Simon's business associations. These initial whispers of discord intensified significantly by April 2022, when Sarah publicly accused Simon of preventing her from seeing their children, alongside revealing other deeply personal issues within their marriage.
The subsequent public attention prompted Sarah to issue an apology, appealing for their issues to be resolved privately.
A brief period of apparent reconciliation followed, highlighted by the announcement in May 2022 that the couple was expecting another child. Yet, this respite proved to be fleeting. By November 2024, Sarah was again in the media spotlight, discussing infidelity in an interview and suggesting it shouldn't automatically lead to the dissolution of a marriage. This ultimately culminated in a revealing confirmation in December 2024, when Sarah disclosed that she had moved out of their shared home, setting the stage for the recent legal altercation.
