Top fraud types by country

A TransUnion report released in 2025 highlights the most common types of digital fraud across various countries.

In Kenya, 34% of consumers reported being targeted and falling victim, with smishing—fraudulent text messages—being the most common scam.

South Africa and India each recorded a 32% victimisation rate, with phishing and identity theft leading, respectively.

 Other countries like the UK, Canada, Spain, and the Philippines mainly reported phishing as the dominant scam.
