Kenyan music icon Nazizi Hirji is celebrating a deeply personal milestone—her son, Tafari, affectionately known as Tafgong, has just turned 15.
In an emotional and heartfelt Instagram post, Nazizi opened up about her journey through motherhood, sharing intimate reflections and treasured family memories in honour of her firstborn.
The post, which quickly garnered warm responses from fans and fellow celebrities, revealed a tender side of the celebrated hip-hop star, known for her fierce stage presence and commitment to family.
“Thanks for making me Mama Tafari and teaching me all I know about motherhood,” she wrote. “Just like you made a grand entrance into the world—choosing your baby shower as your delivery date—you continue to make grand entrances in every stage of your life.”
Nazizi, who rose to fame with the legendary Kenyan music group Necessary Noize, has generally kept her private life out of the spotlight.

However, this tribute gave fans a rare glimpse into her relationship with her son, who she proudly shared is now actively pursuing his goals with determination and discipline.
“Your focus makes me proud,” she added. “Watching you become such a good young man reminds me I am so blessed.”
The post carried even more emotional weight as Nazizi honoured the memory of Tafari’s younger brother, Jazeel Adam, who tragically passed away in late 2023.
“Sorry your small brother @jazeeladam isn't here anymore. I know how much you loved him,” she wrote. “We shall never be the same, but we love you and we are proud of you.”
Nazizi also extended gratitude to the extended family that has helped shape Tafari’s upbringing. She paid tribute to her mother—Tafari’s grandmother—for her nurturing presence, and to her father, Firoz Hirji, whom she credited for being a strong male role model in her son’s life.
“To grandpa @firozhirji, thanks for being the firm hand every boy needs in his life. Your bond is priceless.”
The post concluded with a touching photo of Tafari standing alongside his grandmother and great-grandmother.
