The family of popular TikTok personality Milly wa Doc, real name Milcah Nyatuga Murang’a, is appealing to Kenyans for support in raising KSh 2.5 million to cover her funeral and related expenses.

Milly passed away on 3rd June while receiving treatment at Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital.

According to Dr James Waweru, the hospital’s medical superintendent, Milly was admitted on 26th May after being referred from a private facility due to excessive bleeding.

At the time, she was about six months pregnant and in a critical condition. She was stabilised, given a blood transfusion, and rushed to theatre where doctors performed a procedure to remove the foetus and stop the bleeding.

Although the surgery was initially successful, complications emerged soon after. “We realised her kidneys were not functioning well, and she also began showing signs of sepsis,” Dr Waweru told NTV.

“She was placed on dialysis and treated with stronger antibiotics, but unfortunately, we lost her on 3rd June.”

He also revealed that Milly had previously been admitted in April with similar complications but chose to discharge herself against medical advice.

Her untimely death has left fans and family members in shock, with many struggling to come to terms with the loss of the vibrant young mother and content creator.

In the days following her passing, her family went live on TikTok to share funeral arrangements and appeal for help.

During the broadcast, the funeral committee chairman outlined an estimated budget totalling KSh 1.4 million, sparking mixed reactions online.

The proposed expenses included:

KSh 100,000 for a casket

KSh 50,000 for mortuary fees

KSh 300,000 for food and catering

KSh 200,000 for family outfits

KSh 165,000 for rent arrears

KSh 25,000 for a child’s school fees

KSh 45,000 for photography

KSh 30,000 for transport and banners

KSh 20,000 for bottled water branded with the deceased’s photo

Other items on the list included flowers, a sound system, security, tents, and a portrait.

While the family stressed that the budget was reflective of the costs involved in honouring Milly’s memory and supporting her children, many netizens questioned the scale of the expenses.

One user wrote, “Casket 100k? Why not use that to clear the rent arrears first?” Another said, “Family outfits for 200k? Surely that money could help the kids more directly.”

Others suggested focusing on the burial itself and using any donations to support Milly’s children going forward.

Despite the online debate, the family remains focused on giving Milly a dignified send-off which is scheduled for 13th June.
