On June 5th, 2025, renowned Ugandan DJ and media personality Michael Benjamin Owor, known as DJ Bush Baby, was found dead in his private studio in Entebbe, Uganda, at the age of 50.
His family, concerned by his silence since June 3, broke into the studio and discovered his body. The cause of death has not been disclosed, leaving fans and colleagues across East Africa mourning the loss of a pioneering figure in the region’s entertainment industry.
Born in Uganda, DJ Bush Baby rose to prominence as a trailblazing celebrity DJ, mentoring numerous disc jockeys and contributing to the growth of East African music.
Having worked at stations like Urban TV, XFM, and Sanyu FM, he showcased his versatility across radio and television.
At the time of his passing, he managed VUQA TV, living a quieter life away from the spotlight. His final public moment, captured in a June 2 video, showed him dancing joyfully with his younger sister at an event.
Captioned, “It’s the little things that make life big… feels like my last dance,” the post later prompted speculation among fans about a possible premonition.
Tributes poured in from industry peers and admirers. Musician Jose Chameleone shared a heartfelt message, expressing gratitude for Bush Baby’s contributions to the music scene.
“My condolences to the family of Michael Benjamin Owor. Thank you for your knowledge and legacy. Rest in peace, brother,” he wrote.
Ugandan lawyer Agather Atuhaire recalled a March 2025 conversation where Bush Baby expressed interest in using his platform for social good, joining efforts with AgoraCFR. “We felt fortunate to have his creativity,” she noted, mourning his untimely death.
