The Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) on May 29 rolled out new mandatory guidelines for all gambling advertisements across print, TV, radio, roadshows, social media, and other platforms.

Advertisers must now include the BCLB license number, the warning “Gambling is addictive! Play responsibly!”, and clearly state that gambling is not for persons under 18.

In addition, ads must feature the operator’s name, address, and customer care contact, and include the phrase “Authorised and regulated by BCLB.”

The new rules also ban the use of celebrities, influencers, and testimonials.

Advertisers are prohibited from glamorising gambling, using calls-to-action, or linking gambling to success or income.

The measures are aimed at protecting consumers, especially minors, and promoting responsible gambling. The BCLB warns that any breach could lead to penalties or revocation of licenses.
