Which social media platforms are Kenyans using most?/WILLIAM RUTO

A new survey by the Media Council of Kenya shows WhatsApp remains the most widely used social media platform in the country, accounting for 20 per cent of weekly usage.

Facebook follows closely at 18 per cent, while TikTok continues its rapid rise, capturing 15 per cent of users.

YouTube ranks fourth at 12 per cent, reflecting strong demand for video content.

Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and Messenger register moderate usage at 8, 7 and 6 per cent respectively, while Telegram trails at 4 per cent.

Overall, 74 per cent of Kenyans are active on social or digital media, a figure that has remained largely stable compared to 2024.

The findings suggest that while internet access is widespread, competition among platforms is now focused on user engagement rather than onboarding new users.

With most access happening via mobile phones, platforms that offer seamless, data-efficient and interactive experiences are increasingly dominating Kenya’s digital landscape.
