A recent survey by the National Crime Research Centre (2025) highlights key complaints Kenyans have against the police.

The top issue is the profiling of youths as criminals, cited by 74% of respondents.

Other major concerns include the unnecessary harassment of boda boda operators, matatu drivers, and hawkers (28%), extortion of businesses for bribes (22%), and random profiling of males compared to females (17%).

Additionally, 10% reported arbitrary police swoops targeting youth.

These findings underscore systemic issues of discrimination and corruption within law enforcement, disproportionately affecting young men and informal workers.
