Bolo Bespoke: "Not Even My Village Wanted Me to Marry Mueni!"

At a recent Nairobi event, celebrated comedian and host Dr Ofweneke sat down with renowned fashion designer Bolo Bespoke and his wife, the outspoken content creator Ms Mueni, for a raw and revealing conversation about their relationship.

The designer, best known for redefining luxury wear in Africa, opened up about the uphill battle he faced when choosing love over societal approval.

“Not just my close friends, but even people from my village were against it,” Bolo admitted. “It was a significant challenge. I kept trying to convince them until I reached a point where I didn’t need to anymore.”

He had nothing but praise for his beautiful partner, describing her as a born leader. “Mueni doesn’t fake it—she’s genuine in everything she does.”

Mueni, who has become a rising voice among young Kenyan women, reflected on her early years as a shy, indoorsy child. “I was quite a loner,” she said. “Eventually, I had to teach myself to be social. I started paying my rent at 19, so I had to grow up quickly.”

In a separate interview in mid-may 2025, the mother of two revealed to YouTuber Faith Brandy that she once aspired to marry a white man to attain a luxurious lifestyle. That changed when she met Bolo.

“I always thought a ‘mzungu’ was the only path to a soft life,” she confessed. “But Bolo gave me everything I dreamed of and more. Even if I die and come back, I’d still choose him. I just hope God reminds me.”

The pair, who wed in a traditional ceremony late last year, shared how open communication has been key to their marriage.

Mueni said they discuss everything—right down to what they say in interviews. “We plan it all out together,” she said, underscoring their bond as both partners and teammates.

Their closeness is evident in their daily life. “I wake up with him every day. We work together at Bespoke. When I don’t go to the studio, he notices,” Mueni shared.

“We’re so used to each other now that we honestly can’t live without one another.”
