What influences tenants on where to live?

More than half (51.6 per cent) of the tenant households cited affordability of rent as the main reason influencing their choice of neighbourhood.

Proximity to work was the second most cited reason, reported by 17.7 per cent of the households.

Nationally, households paying rent spent 36.9 per cent of their household expenditure on rent.

Households in urban areas spent a higher proportion of their household expenditure on rent compared to rural renting households at 38.0 per cent and 29.6 per cent.
