KeNHA explains cause of traffic between Kariandusi and Nakuru

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has attributed the heavy traffic jam along the A8 highway between Kariandusi and Nakuru to overlapping and driver indiscipline.

In a statement issued on Monday morning, the authority confirmed that the snarl-up had persisted overnight, significantly affecting the flow of vehicles on the busy highway.

 KeNHA urged motorists using the route to avoid overlapping, noting that doing so hampers efforts by its teams and the police to restore order and ease congestion.

“We are experiencing a snarl-up on the A8 between Kariandusi and Nakuru that lasted all night due to overlapping and driver indiscipline. Motorists are advised to stop overlapping as this will assist our teams and the police to restore order,” the statement read in part.

To help ease the situation and offer relief to stranded travellers, KeNHA advised road users to consider alternative routes until normal traffic flow is restored.

The recommended detours include the Gilgil–Olkalou–Dundori–Lanet route and the Flyover–Njambini–Olkalou–Dundori–Lanet route.

The A8 highway is a major transport corridor linking Nairobi to Nakuru and the western region of Kenya.

The section between Kariandusi and Nakuru is known for experiencing occasional congestion, particularly during peak travel periods.

Authorities have not indicated how long it will take to fully clear the jam, but enforcement officers remain on the ground to manage traffic and assist motorists.

KeNHA  said it continues to monitor the situation and will provide further updates as necessary
