Kenya's debt service to UAE (Sh m)

Kenya’s debt service to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) dropped by 16.8 per cent to Sh103.8 million in the first half of 2024, according to the latest data from the Treasury.

This marks a significant reduction from Sh124.8 million in 2023.

The trend follows a period of fluctuations, with debt service peaking at Sh126.29 million in 2020 before dropping to Sh90.64 million in 2021. A slight rise was noted in 2022 at Sh97.7 million.

The latest decline highlights Kenya’s efforts to manage its external debt obligations more prudently amid mounting fiscal pressures.
