The 72nd edition of the Miss World competition is set to take place in India this May. However, Miss Tanzania 2023, Tracy Nabukeera, who was expected to represent her country, has announced that she will not be participating.
In a heartfelt statement to her fans and supporters, the beauty queen cited lack of support from the organizing body as her primary reason for stepping down.
“After much thought and consideration, I've made the decision not to participate in Miss World 2025. This was not an easy choice, but due to a lack of support, proper communication, and adequate preparation from the organization responsible, I no longer felt aligned or empowered enough to represent Tanzania on such a global stage,” she said.
She added:
“This decision comes from a place of love—for myself, my supporters, and for the values I stand for. I believe that when you carry a national title, you deserve to be fully supported and equipped to thrive. I'm still incredibly proud to hold the title of Miss Tanzania 2023, and I will continue using my platform to inspire, serve, and make an impact—especially through my project, Step by Step, which remains at the heart of everything I do. Thank you to everyone who's been patient, supportive, and kind throughout this journey.”
Tracy Nabukeera is not only a beauty queen but also a mental health advocate. In one of her recent posts, she shared her experience as a speaker at a youth-focused mental health event:
“I had the honour of being a speaker at the #NavigatingTheSchoolyard—an amazing project by @_.projectdream aimed at raising mental health awareness among youth aged 11–14. I spoke about self-image and its connection to mental well-being. I’m deeply grateful to the amazing team that made this event possible. Your hard work and determination are truly inspiring.”
The most recent Miss World pageant was held in 2023 and won by Krystyna Pyszková from the Czech Republic. This year’s event marks the third time the pageant is being held in India, following previous editions in 1996 and 2024.
Miss World is the oldest international beauty pageant, founded in 1951 by Eric Morley in the United Kingdom. It continues to be one of the most prestigious global competitions, celebrating beauty with a purpose.
