Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere

Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere has pinpointed his side’s wastefulness in front of goal as the root cause of their five-game win-less run in the Kenya Premier League (KPL).

The brewers last tasted victory on January 25, grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars courtesy of Chrispine Erambo’s 53rd-minute strike. Since then, their attacking woes have been laid bare, registering barren draws against KCB, Kenya Police and Gor Mahia, alongside a 1-1 stalemate with Shabana.

Their latest outing saw them settle for yet another goalless draw against Bandari at Mbaraki Sports Club— a frustrating result that cost them the chance to reclaim top spot in the standings.

Despite the dry spell, Tusker are second on the league table at 41 points behind Kenya Police. Okere has urged his squad to be more clinical, insisting that goals must come from all areas of the pitch.

“This is a wake up call for all the players be it a defender, striker or midfielder, anybody who gets the chance in front of goal needs to convert to secure all three points,” Okere noted.

The tactician emphasised the urgency of returning to winning ways to sustain their title push. “These draws are not that healthy because to win a championship, we have to win by scoring as many goals as possible to ensure the three points,” he added.

The disappointment from their last league outing was evident within the squad with Okere acknowledging the players’ frustration.

“Even the body language of the players tells that nobody is happy about the draw, we need to get our scoring boots back.”

Tusker’s focus now shifts to cup action as they take on Nairobi United in the FKF Cup over the weekend before resuming their league campaign against Posta Rangers on March 14.

“It has been a tough week. We have played very tough matches and now we are preparing for another match in the FKF Cup after which we turn focus to preparing for our next league assignment.”

“We will use the long week to improve on our finishing,” he noted.
