The interview was a sure blast, but things took a turn when Obinna brought up a sensitive topic—Bena’s experience in China.
Bena had traveled to China with a group of Kenyan content creators to explore the country. Everything was going smoothly, and he described the breathtaking experiences he had—from eating bullfrogs to drinking porridge using chopsticks. However, the trip turned into a nightmare when he received a call from his mother.
"I was in China when Mathe called me. She asked me how China was, but from her tone, I already sensed something was off. I tried asking her to tell me what the problem was, but she insisted on telling me when I got back home. Immediately I landed in Kenya, I called her, and I had to lie to her that I was already at home just so she could tell me what was happening."
That’s when his mother broke the devastating news—his sister was suffering from a heart condition, and the doctors were asking for Ksh1.3 million for her to undergo surgery.
Bena explained that at the time, he did not have the Ksh1.3 million, so he had to find a way to raise the funds.
"I tried talking to people, my online people. So, I posted the issue online, and the first comment I got was from someone saying that I must have the Ksh1.3 million since I had just come from China. I had to protect my mental health, so I deleted the video. Out there, they believe that if you are famous, you must be rich," Bena said.
As the sole provider for his family, Bena was able to pull some strings, and his sister was able to go for monthly checkups.
However, they couldn’t afford the full treatment, which included surgery. Her condition worsened, and she had to be admitted.
During one visit, the doctors came to him with the heartbreaking news—his sister had unfortunately passed away.
The family still has pending hospital bills yet to be cleared. Although Bena seemed hesitant to ask for help, Obinna called on his live viewers to support him.
The audience responded generously, contributing over Ksh50,000 during the live show.
