KWS officers try to contain fire a section of the Nairobi nationla park/KWSThe Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has said a wildfire that broke out at the Nairobi National Park near Wilson Airport along the southern bypass has been contained.
According to the agency, the blaze was quickly brought under control through a combined effort of Nairobi City County.
The second blaze, which started at the Athi Basin Dam area, reported at 4 PM, it stated, is however under active containment. KWS, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), volunteers, fire engines, and water bowsers are on-site
Investigations into the causes of the fires, it stated, are currently ongoing, with KWS suspecting human activities as major contributing factors.
This includes discarded cigarettes, arson, and honey harvesting combined with the extreme dry conditions.
