Residents of Kogudi village in North Kamagak location, Homa Bay County have been left in shock following the discovery of the body of an eight-year-old Grade 4 pupil.
The body was found hanging from a tree in a suspected suicide case.
Area Chief Benson Midigo said the pupil’s body was found Wednesday morning, dangling from a mango tree.
The Administrator said the child’s father who has been taking care of his two sons had left home in the morning, after the child had left for school.
“When he came home from work, he found his eldest son with a flashlight searching for his younger brother, Emmanuel,” the Chief said.
He said the father joined in the search for the missing child around the area until 10.00 am, but they did not manage to trace him.
The chief said to the father and son, assumed that the boy might have slipped away to attend a funeral ceremony that was in the neighbourhood, so they went to sleep.
Early morning, the brother was sent to search for his younger kin in the neighbourhood, where the funeral was ongoing but barely ten minutes later, a neighbour called the father to inform him that the boy had been found dead on a neighbour’s farm.
The Chief explained that the father had not had any issues with the boy and there was no sign of stress, saying it was still unclear why the boy might have taken his life.
He said police have already launched an investigation into the suicide.
