She also posted a photo of a note written by Payne shortly before his death, which hinted at marriage plans within the year.

Looking back, Cassidy expressed a profound sense of what might have been. "Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out at the end," she explained.

Payne had been in Argentina visiting his former One Direction bandmate, Niall Horan, who was performing in concert.Cassidy had returned to their home in Florida to care for their dog, Nala.

"I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur," she explained.

She stated that "Liam was in such a good headspace when I left," making his sudden death even more difficult to comprehend.

Payne's passing ignited a conversation about the music industry's responsibility to protect the well-being of young artists.

Toxicology reports revealed the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in Payne's system at the time of his death, according to the Argentinian prosecutor's office.

A UK inquest in Buckinghamshire later confirmed the cause of death as "polytrauma," indicating multiple traumatic injuries sustained in the fall.

Since Payne's death, Cassidy has moved back to her home state of New Jersey. She spoke of the profound impact Payne had on her life, describing their connection as that of "soulmates" from the moment they met in 2022 when she was working as a waitress in South Carolina, according to The Sun's reporting.

"It still doesn't feel fully real" that he's gone, she confessed."I'm trying to be the best I can be, but I feel like my life has changed so much. I think about Liam every second of every day." She expressed the immense challenge of navigating life without him.

"That he won't be there with me to navigate through this life, that I'll have to deal with this without him by my side... it's really hard," she shared.

Cassidy recounted the moment she learned of Payne's death. After receiving a call from a friend of Payne's, she said she felt like she "completely blacked out."

When the news was confirmed, she felt numb and desperately tried to reach him, calling him repeatedly. She revealed the touching detail that she still calls his phone just to hear his voicemail message.

While she used to fall asleep to his music, she now finds it too painful to listen to. "Maybe one day," she said. Reflecting on their relationship, she remembered, "We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive... you never truly know what tomorrow will bring, you never know."
