Racheal Otuoma, widow of the late Kenyan football legend Ezekiel Otuoma, has broken her silence following his burial on January 11.

Speaking on a TikTok live session with MC Chris, Rachel opened up about her grief and the steps she took to honour her husband’s legacy.

During the live interaction, MC Chris shared his cultural observations from attending the burial.

Racheal explained her intentional efforts to make the ceremony a dignified farewell befitting Otuoma’s stature.

"I told you Otuoma's burial would be different," Rachel stated. "I wanted to give him a send-off that reflected his legacy as a legend. It was my final opportunity to honour him. It felt like a wedding that resembled a state funeral. He deserved that, and I’m glad everything went well. Everybody ate, danced, and celebrated his life. I’m sure Otuoma is smiling from where he is."

MC Chris humorously recounted the abundance of food at the event, mentioning that he enjoyed three meals, even joking about wanting to marry a Luo woman for their hospitality.

On how she’s managing life after the burial, Rachel expressed gratitude for the support she’s receiving. "I’m okay, still mourning, but I have people here consoling me," she said. 

A Surprising Reconciliation

Her comments come a few days after Otuoma's burial also marked an unexpected moment of reconciliation between Racheal and her mother-in-law, a relationship that had long been strained.

Despite past tensions, Otuoma’s mother used the occasion to express gratitude and extend an olive branch.


Publicly acknowledging Rachel’s unwavering support during Otuoma’s four-year battle with motor neuron disease (MND), the grieving mother shared a heartfelt message.

"Rachael, thank you so much. Big thanks for carrying the burden. I took on the same responsibility for three years when Otuoma’s dad was bedridden, and I saw how hard it was. May God bless you for carrying that burden."

In a moving gesture, Otuoma’s mother invited Racheal to continue being part of the family. "Your house is down there. Feel welcome anytime you want to visit your husband’s place. I have nothing against you. Forgive me for the past differences. May God be with you."

Racheal then graciously accepted the gesture, two acts that will hopefully signal a new chapter for the family.
