Defending
champions Prisons Kenya (men) and
Kenya Pipeline (women) are looking
to maintain an unbeaten run in the
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF)
leagues as they head to the third leg
on January 23-26 in Iten.
Kenya Ports Authority and Equity Bank with 12 points apiece and a game in hand, trail the leaders. KPA have won four games out of five and are slightly ahead of Equity.
General Service Unit (GSU), unbeaten in three games, sit fourth with nine points, the same as Kapu and Trailblazers, who have both recorded three wins in five matches.
Prisons Nairobi and Kenya Forests Service (KFS) are tied on six points after recording strong starts with two wins each.
KDF and Prisons, Rift Valley follow in that order with four points apiece with both teams struggling to find consistency.
At the bottom are Prisons Western, National Youth Service, Mt. Kenya Base Yetu and DOD CAU who remain win-less.
DoD have withdrawn from the league. In the women’s cadre, Kenya Pipeline emerge as the frontrunners in the women’s competition after a 3-2 victory over defending champions KCB in the second-leg opener at Nyayo Stadium a fortnight ago.
The leaders, unbeaten in five matches, have 13 points. Prisons Kenya and Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) trail leaders on 12 points apiece with four wins each from five games.
Kenya Army, unbeaten with three wins, are fourth with nine points while Vihiga rounds off the top five with six points.
KCB, with one win in three matches, have five points, while Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Maranatha and Young Spikers share three points apiece.
Postbank and Prisons Nairobi sit bottom with two and one points respectively. Lipalikes, who failed to honour the second league, remain win-less.
The warders, who top the 16- team league, remain unbeaten after six matches, amassing 17 points. “The competition is quite stiff and unpredictable,” KVF fixtures secretary George Oronje said.
He said nearly all teams have honoured their seven matches across the first two legs while those that are yet to, will do so after the completion of the third and fourth leagues as per league regulations.
“Teams with matches yet to be played will conclude them after the
remaining leg,” Oronje confirmed.
The fourth leg returning to Nairobi’s
Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums.
