Blazers’ coach, Rose Mbulo, has hailed her team’s resilience and dedication, describing their triumph in the Women’s Kenya Hockey Premier League as a true reflection of their hard work.
This season, the Blazers managed two draws—1-1 with Sliders in their opener and another against Strathmore in their final match—and suffered a single loss on the road to Mombasa Sports Club.
The Blazers have now claimed back-to-back titles, with the only blip in 2019 when they lost to Strathmore.
“It’s an incredible feeling to finish first. This achievement reflects the effort and unity of every individual on the team,” Mbulo said.
Reflecting on the season, Mbulo acknowledged the challenges faced, praising the team’s tactical discipline and mental toughness for their success.
“There were moments when the competition was intense, but our ability to adapt and stay focused was key,” she explained.
The season’s pivotal moment came mid-way through when key tactical changes helped them overcome a tough opponent.
“Our team’s biggest strength was its unity. Every player knew their role and executed it with precision,” she said.
She stressed that preparation and adaptability were crucial in their pursuit of excellence.
“The coaching staff played an essential role, keeping the players fit and mentally sharp for every challenge.”
Despite the success, Mbulo believes there’s always room for growth.
“We will analyse this season carefully to identify areas where we can grow. Staying at the top requires continuous development,” she noted.
Looking ahead, she expressed confidence in the team’s ability to build on this success and sustain their dominance.
“We hope this victory inspires more young girls to take up hockey and chase their dreams. It’s a proud moment for us as a team and for women’s hockey as a whole,” she said.
In other action, Kenya Police fell 7-0 to defending champions Butali Warriors in the battle for second place, following the Western Jaguars’ title victory.
“This is our biggest win of the
season, even without being in top
form and we’re targeting the title
next season,” Butali team
manager Kamal Sembi said.
