Barack Obama mourns Quincy Jones in heartfelt tribute

Former US President Barack Obama has joined the rest of the world in mourning music Icon Quincy Jones who passed away at 91.

In his message, Obama eulogized Quincy Jones as a composer whose music appealed to thousands of listeners worldwide.

“For decades, Quincy Jones was music. From producing ThJones, riller, to composing the score for The Color Purple, to working with Frank Sinatra to Ray Charles, it seemed like every big record – and every big film had Quincy’s name on it,” Obama shared.

“His music appealed to listeners of every race and every age. And by building a career that took him from the streets of Chicago to the heights of Hollywood, Quincy paved the way for generations of Black executives to leave their mark on the entertainment business,”.

“Michelle and I send our thoughts to Quincy’s friends, family, and everyone who has lived their lives to his songs,” he added.

Jones was the right-hand man to both Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson and helped to shape the sound of jazz and pop over more than 60 years.

He was a prolific performer, arranger, songwriter, producer, soundtrack composer, and record executive for over 50 years.

His recordings revolutionised music by crossing genres, promoting unlikely collaborations, and shaping modern production techniques.

He started out in the jumping jazz clubs of the 1950s; mastered soul, swing, and pop on recordings by Dinah Washington, Frank Sinatra, and Lesley Gore; and reached the top 10 in his own right.

Some of the biggest entertainers in America agreed to perform at his memorial.

Quincy Jones lived for 50 years after attending his own memorial service.

When the musician suffered a brain aneurysm in 1974, his chances of survival were said to be so slim, and his stature so high, that his famous friends started planning a tribute concert.
