The type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic has gained popularity on social media. Ozempic's online popularity stems from the drug's shown ability to help diabetics lose weight, not merely from its ability to control blood sugar.
TikTok influencers and celebrities have reported using it to quickly lose weight.
The number of people trying to get Ozempic in the hopes of reducing weight has increased despite the fact that it is not recommended for weight loss.
After Ozempic, a prescribed medication for Type 2 diabetes, made headlines last year as Hollywood's secret weight loss treatment, demand for the drug skyrocketed.
In a December 2023 interview with People, Oprah Winfrey disclosed that she uses a weight-loss medication, but she did not name it with many presuming that it was Ozempic.
After doing an investigation online, each dosage can cost between Ksh.75,000 and around Ksh.120,000.
