President William Ruto on Monday presided over the pass-out parade of the Kenya Forest Service Inspector Cadets and Forester Trainees Course at NYS Gilgil, Nakuru County.
During the ceremony which saw 569 new forest guardians graduate, 467 Forester Trainees and 102 Inspector Cadets, Ruto said KFS will no longer rely on ex-chequer.
He said they will fully depend on internally generated resources.
"I have the understanding from the Cabinet Secretary and KFS, that from next year the Service will exit from requiring resources from the exchequer," he said.

The President congratulated the Service leaders, stating that illegal logging and other criminal activities around Kenya's environmental resources have reduced.
He noted that last year, the government hired the highest number of KFS officers since independence, being 2,600.
"Today, we have here 465 forest officers. We have also hired 102 cadets who will be managers of our environment," he said.

Ruto pointed out that they have a responsibility to ensure that forests are respected, protected and enhanced for sustainability and future generations.
