Senior citizens in Homa Bay who are at least 70 years old want a regular monthly stipend under the social protection programme.

The social protection programme was initiated by the government to provide monthly stipends to the elderly.

Every senior citizen who signs up for the programme ought to receive Sh2000 into their bank accounts each month.

But it has been revealed that there are delays in accessing the funds. Some senior citizens provided their details for the programme, but they have not been enlisted.

A few individuals who registered reported that they were not receiving the funds on a regular basis.

According to Angeline Adero, elderly people’s budgets are impacted by the sporadic delivery of funds. Traveling to banks each month without receiving the money, she claimed, is also exhausting.

“The programme is becoming exclusive because I registered for the cash transfer last year but I have not benefited,” Adero said. Zilpa Ochuma and Nicholas Ajigo asked the state to increase the stipend, saying they have numerous responsibilities.
