Betting and gaming advertising expenditure in Kenya recorded sharp fluctuations across four consecutive quarters, reflecting significant changes in promotional spending within the industry.
Data from the Communications Authority of Kenya shows that expenditure peaked at Sh2.191 billion in the third quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year before declining to Sh1.185 billion in the fourth quarter, a drop of about 45.9 per cent.
The downward trend continued into the first quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year, when spending plunged to Sh131 million, representing a decline of approximately 88.9 per cent from the previous quarter.
However, expenditure registered a modest recovery in the second quarter, rising by 42.7 per cent to Sh187 million.
Despite the rebound, advertising spending remained substantially below the levels recorded in the final two quarters of the 2024/2025 financial year.
The figures highlight the sharp contraction in betting and gaming advertising expenditure in the first half of the 2025/2026 financial year, followed by a slight increase in the subsequent quarter.
